Kōrero: United States and New Zealand

Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin Roosevelt, visited New Zealand between 28 August and 3 September 1943. She came to visit the American forces stationed in the country, to inspect the work of the American Red Cross, whose grey uniform she wore throughout the visit, and to examine the contribution of New Zealand women to the war effort. She was impressed by the work of New Zealand women, and at the end of her visit she recorded this message offering her thanks for their help in hosting American servicemen.
