Kōrero: Cold War

Colombo Plan guests

Video file

New Zealand was an enthusiastic supporter of the Colombo Plan, which aimed to counter communism in Asia through economic and social development. This included sponsoring Asian students to study at New Zealand universities. A 1964 government film, Colombo Plan: our student guests, showed the experiences of one cohort of students in Wellington. This clip shows some of the occupations the students were being trained for.
