Kōrero: Cold War

Soldiers at Trieste

Video file

In May 1945 New Zealand troops moved into the Italian city of Trieste to forestall its occupation by Yugoslav forces. This newsreel shows some of the soldiers on the streets of the city. The New Zealanders' show of force led the Yugoslavs to withdraw from the city.
