Kōrero: Business failures and corporate fraud

Levene advertisements (1 o 2)

During the 1990s the number of company failures increased because of difficult trading conditions. One business that failed after a period of significant success was Levene. The company began when 23-year-old David Levene began managing his family's Auckland paint business. He built up a network of international suppliers, developed drive-in stores and discounting, and offered designer home products. In 1994 David Levene ended his involvement with the company, which was sold to Skellerup. There were more than 50 stores at that time – but three and a half years later the business went into receivership.
