Video file

Watch a clip from the World of WearableArt awards in Wellington in 2005. The event, featuring spectacular wearable artworks, had begun in Nelson in 1987 and was a top attraction for the city. Organisers moved it to Wellington in 2005 to benefit from larger audiences and wider exposure. Such events were increasingly important to local economies, and cities competed to host them.
