Most New Zealand vineyards are planted with vines grafted onto phylloxera-resistant rootstocks. This video clip shows workers at Riversun nursery in Gisborne grafting a piece of fruit-bearing vine (the scion) onto a piece of vine that will produce roots (the rootstock). Riversun is the country’s leading supplier of certified grafted vines, and in 2008 was the only nursery with the facilities to import new grape varieties.
