Geoff Robinson (left) and Lindsay Perigo are shown during the production of Morning report around 1985. Morning report, which began in 1975, became the flagship news show for Radio New Zealand's National Programme (later Radio New Zealand National). Geoff Robinson worked on Morning report from 1975 until his retirement in 2014. In this sound clip he announces the bird call, the recording of a bird (usually a New Zealand native, but in this case a Canada goose) which signals the end of Morning report each day. The bird call became so popular with listeners that there was a public outcry in 2005 over suggestions that the call be axed.
