New Zealand sailor Russell Coutts is shown here in 2009 at the wheel of a yacht he was skippering in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series for the BMW Oracle team. Coutts had been hired by US billionaire Larry Ellison to head a team to challenge (successfully) for the 2010 America's Cup. Coutts had skippered Team New Zealand's successful America's Cup campaigns in 1995 and 1999. In 2003 Coutts and other members of Team New Zealand departed to sail for opposing teams, sparking resentment from the New Zealand public. Listen to this comment on the subject on a Radio Pacific talkback programme.
