Hear Edgar 'Cobber' Kain speak on radio describing his early flying training, and the process of joining the RAF in 1936. This talk was probably recorded in April 1940, after his first five 'kills'. (3 min 56 sec)

My father worked for a Mr Kain. He helped with the building and garden of a holiday home just out of Picton. Dad also looked after Mr Kain's launch moored at Waikawa. The launch was named after "Cobber Kain". there was a picture of Cobber Kain with a short poem.....I can't remember all the words but I think it had "reaching for the sky" in the poem. Mr Kain and his wife lived in Wellington. I think he was the Uncle Of Cobber Kain. That was back in 1958.
