Flax workers

Flax workers

Workers pose outside the Seifert brothers’ Miranui flax mill, at the time the largest in Manawatū. Most of them would have been single. Mill manager Dick Webb (foreground) holds a young child. Bundles of flax leaves are visible at right and left of the picture, taken around 1910.
