Pohokura-1 well

Pohokura-1 well

Pohokura-1 well, drilled in 2000 about 4 kilometres off the Taranaki coast, discovered a gas-condensate field. Here, gas is being flared off the side of the rig, with Mt Taranaki in the background. Later drilling established the extent of the Pohokura field, showing that it is similar in size to the Kāpuni gas and oil field.
