Here, the New Zealand men’s underwater hockey team for 2005 is shown in action. New Zealand has achieved considerable success at international underwater hockey championships. Members of each team (consisting of 10 players, with six in the water at any one time) are equipped with a mask, snorkel, flippers and protective gloves. Using curved, 35-centimetre-long sticks, they aim to push or flick a lead puck along the bottom of a pool and into the opposing team’s goal.
