Dutch immigrants from Indonesia

Dutch immigrants from Indonesia arrive in Auckland in November 1949. Indonesian nationalists declared independence in 1945, and in the four following years war raged as the Dutch attempted to re-establish their authority in Indonesia. When the Republic of Indonesia was finally established, in 1949, some Indonesian-Dutch people, including ex-servicemen, came to New Zealand to settle.
