A group of scientists from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) who had distinguished careers in geophysics and oceanography. From left, Eddie Robertson (founder, Geophysics Division and later director-general of DSIR), Jim Brodie (founding director, New Zealand Oceanographic Institute), Frank Evison (director, Geophysics Division and later professor of geophysics at Victoria University of Wellington) and Trevor Hatherton (director, Geophysics Division and later president, Royal Society of New Zealand).
