Carving Ōamaru stone

Because it can be readily shaped, Ōamaru stone is a favourite material for carvers. A carving competition has been held for many years on the Wellington waterfront. Marie Moanaroa-Parata-Munroe’s emerging sculpture, in the 1995 contest, has a motherhood theme.
