A Newman coach at Canvastown, near Havelock

In 1891 Henry Newman and his brother Thomas Newman extended their coach service between Nelson and the West Coast to connect Nelson and Blenheim. By this time they were using thorough-braced Cobb coaches drawn by four horses, which ensured faster and more frequent trips.
