Russian couple and child

A large number of Russians came to New Zealand in the 1990s, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. They were seeking safety and security, but some had trouble finding suitable jobs. Two years after arriving, Sergey Permitin had not solved his employment difficulties but was intending to stay with his wife, Anna, and their New Zealand-born daughter, pictured here.
