Oyster farm, 1978

Oyster farm, 1978

Marine farming is a major industry for Northland, and over half New Zealand’s oyster exports are produced by marine farms in the north. This government-run oyster farm at Orongo Bay in the Bay of Islands was photographed in 1978, soon after the introduction of Pacific oysters had invigorated the marine farming industry.
