Lahar from Ruapehu

In late September 1995, explosive eruptions spread mud and water from the crater lake of Ruapehu around the summit, and caused lahars down the valleys. This photograph, taken on 24 September 1995, shows an eruption underway, with mud from an earlier eruption covering the snow around the crater.
