Albatross killed by a longline

Albatross killed by a longline

This wandering albatross has dived into the water and taken one of the baits on a Japanese longline targeting tuna. After getting caught on the hook, the bird was dragged through the water and drowned. One of the major challenges the fishing industry faces is reducing its by-catch – the taking of untargeted species.
