Home-made concrete walls protect these properties at Twelve Mile Bluff on the West Coast. They lie on a narrow strip of land between the road (obscured) and the sea. These properties have been built too close to shore. During the 1990s and 2000s local authorities placed more controls on building in areas that might be prone to coastal erosion.
