Cutting up a whale

Cutting up a whale

The Bay of Plenty remained an important centre for Māori whaling until the 1920s. The oil would be shipped to Auckland and the meat would be enjoyed by everyone in the community. This whale is being cut up on a beach near Cape Runaway in 1912.
