The Island Bay fishermen’s rugby team, pictured in 1921, featured Italians and Shetlanders. Fishing communities formed in places such as Island Bay, Wellington, from minority immigrant groups such as Dalmatians, Italians, Shetlanders and others. At Island Bay, Italians and Shetlanders formed distinct close-knit communities.
