Male sea lion (1 o 2)

Male sea lion

Most New Zealand sea lions breed on the Auckland Islands, with smaller colonies on the Snares and Campbell Island. Small numbers come to the South Island after breeding, where they may be seen on sandy beaches around the Otago Peninsula. Males are heavier and darker than females, and have coarse hair somewhat like a lion’s mane over the shoulders and throat.
