Sporting a period flying cap and goggles, a happy pilot flies a restored De Havilland Tiger Moth over Wairarapa in 1992. Restoring and flying old aircraft is now a popular pastime in New Zealand, fostered by groups such as the New Zealand Sport and Vintage Aviation Society. The society obtained a wrecked Tiger Moth in 1976 and spent years restoring it to the point that it could be flown again. This was the aircraft’s first official flight after its restoration.
