Shaw Savill built only one new passenger liner between the wars, but it was a big one. At 26,463 tons, the Dominion Monarch of 1939 dwarfed everything on the New Zealand run. For all that, she was primarily a cargo carrier, because there were cabins for just 525 passengers, all first class. Passengers had the use of six decks from the games deck, down through the lounge, promenade, 'A', B' and C' decks. The public spaces included this children’s dining saloon.
