
When the New Zealand Expeditionary Force took control of German Samoa in August 1914, seven nurses went with them to replace the German nurses at Apia hospital. Among them were Ida Willis and Evelyn Brooke (left and second from left, back row), Fanny Wilson (right, back row), and Vida MacLean (left, front row).
