Car wash blues

Image
Five young women in bright yellow and red football uniforms are grouped around a white car. They are washing the car, probably at a petrol station.

Stokes Valley football players pause for the camera during an eight-hour stint grooming cars at a BP service station on Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, in May 1991. The money they raised went towards uniforms, travel and other costs. ‘It's a lot more fun playing … than washing cars, but it's been well worth it’, said goalkeeper Lisa Nicholson.
