On the final day of the occupation of Parliament grounds, 2 March 2022, protesters set fire to tents and other camping gear as police moved onto the site, which had been occupied three weeks earlier as a protest against COVID-19 restrictions imposed since 2020. In this image, police form a cordon as other police in riot gear attempt to clear the area. Placards litter the parliamentary forecourt. Violence like this has not been seen at many New Zealand protests.
