Fergus Sheppard (centre) on a visit to a historic blacksmith building built by John Bedggood in the 1840s, next to Te Waimate Mission in Waimate North, Northland. Sheppard was a board member of the National Historic Places Trust (later Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga) at the time of his visit in 1966. On the right is historian and heritage architect John Stacpoole.
