Spat-catching frames

The main source of green-lipped mussel spat is seaweed found cast ashore on Ninety Mile Beach, Northland. Spat can also be caught near mussel farms. These spat-catching rope frames are about to be hung out near an established mussel farm.

What a wonderful tasting mussel!!!! We were wondering why we only get these tasty mussels from November to March in our stores in western New York. I always have to stock up (leaving not much room in our freezer for other essentials)before the stores run out. Thank you, Zeena
