The wreck of Manurewa

A photograph showing the aeroplane Manurewa with the wings broken off and the entire structure collapsed

Shortly after its first successful flight in Takanini in February 1911, Manurewa was wrecked after somersaulting in the flight paddock. This photograph shows the damaged aeroplane before calves feasted on the canvas overnight causing further, irreparable damage.
