Oklahoma City Thunder’s Steven Adams (right) fends off the Houston Rockets’ James Harden during an NBA match in 2018. Rotorua-born Adams was the Thunder’s first pick in the 2013 NBA draft – the first New Zealander to be selected in the first round of the draft. He signed a four-year, US$100 million contract extension in 2016. By then he was a regular member of the Thunder’s starting lineup, noted for his ability to snare rebounds at both ends of the court. In 2020 Adams was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-year $35 million contract.
