In April 1992, Margaret Mahy led this procession of young readers and their parents through Wellington’s Frank Kitts Park to mark the beginning of a fortnight of children’s literature activities. Several generations of schoolchildren enjoyed hearing Mahy read her stories, often wearing an exotic costume and a multicoloured wig.
