Leopold Haupois, 1930s

Leopold Haupois was born in Normandy, France, and came to New Zealand in 1875. He worked as a bushman and fisherman around Wellington and ended his days in a cottage in Fisherman’s Bay at Makara Beach, where he died in 1940. Haupois was known to locals as ‘French Louis’.
