Community groups: welcoming Indonesian seamen

There are communities of Indonesians throughout New Zealand. In August 2012 members of Dunedin's Indonesian community – from left, Dyah Utanti, Arlen Johnston, Rini Pancaningsih, 20-month-old Bilal Ahmand and Melvin Salahuddin – turned out to welcome visiting Indonesian seamen. The visitors, from right, Lokot Siregar, Feri and Zainal Bin Abdul Kadir, were crew on board the French icebreaker L'Astrolabe, an oceanographic research ship. 'I know how they feel,' said Salahuddin. 'I came to New Zealand in 2010 and didn't know anybody, and it is nice to feel welcomed in a new community.'
