Maurice Till

Maurice Till

Maurice Till, concert pianist, accompanist and teacher, is pictured at his piano. He was one of the first pianists to sustain a performing career while living in New Zealand. He studied piano from an early age and, after graduating from the University of Canterbury with an MA in mathematics, began a professional performing career that took him around New Zealand, and to Australia, the United States and Europe. From 1959 he gained a reputation as a highly skilled and sensitive accompanist to touring artists. He also taught music over 30 years at the universities of Canterbury and Otago. His pupils included Michael Houstoun, Richard Mapp, Sharon Joy Vogan, Terence Dennis and Sarah Watkins.
