Crowds mass in Courtenay Place in Wellington, on the occasion of the world premiere of The Hobbit: an unexpected journey, directed by home-town boy Peter Jackson, on 28 November 2012. At the top of the photo is the Embassy Theatre, where the film was shown to the invited guests. The public response to the launch was a significant indication of the importance of the creative arts to New Zealand, and to Wellington in particular.
