In the 1970s well-known artist Pat Hanly painted a number of public murals. One of these was 'Prelude to a journey' (1977), commissioned for Auckland airport. This is Hanly working on the mural, which was painted on a series of large hardboard panels. 'Prelude to a journey' was removed in 1996 when the airport was redesigned. It was gifted to the Chartwell Trust, which distributed the panels to other art collections. One of the panels came up for sale at Webb's auction house in 2014.
