This photograph shows a New Zealand Archaeological Association expedition about to depart from Dunedin for a 10-day survey of moa-hunting sites in Hawksburn, Central Otago. H. D. Skinner (left, with hat) farewells the group, which included (left to right) Michael Trotter, W. Robb, Les Lockerbie (the expedition leader), J. Beeby and Jim Eyles. Lockerbie pioneered a more systematic approach to recording archaeological site details.
