This replica of an 1890s Canterbury street at Canterbury Museum gives modern visitors an idea of what life was like for European settlers in New Zealand. The increased interest in colonial history from the 1940s onwards led both Auckland and Canterbury museums to set up such replica streets containing idealised versions of the shops and businesses of the Victorian era.
