Opening of Auckland War Memorial Museum, 1929

Crowds gather for the opening of the Auckland War Memorial Museum in the Auckland Domain, on 28 November 1929. Auckland Museum was one of the two major museum building projects of the interwar period. The other was Wellington's Dominion Museum, built next to the National War Memorial and carillon. Both projects linked the role of a temple of culture to that of a site of remembrance.
