DSIR physicist Jeff Tallon (far right) demonstrates developments in ceramic superconductors to Energy Minister Bob Tizard (seated, left) and Agriculture Minister Colin Moyle (seated, right) in July 1987. The following year Tallon, Bob Buckley and Murray Presland discovered a new ceramic material, known as BSCCO-2223. This became used around the world for making superconducting wires.
