Frank Hofmann's 'Studio arrangement', around 1944

Czechoslovak immigrant Frank Hofmann, who settled in New Zealand in 1940, helped introduce modernist ideas and practices to local photography. In this image from the mid-1940s, different elements are juxtaposed to create a study of form and light.
