Kōrero: Photography

Una Garlick was one of the leading pictorialist photographers of the 1920s. She is remembered in particular for her portraits of Māori women, but she also photographed the landscapes beloved of pictorialists, like tree-lined rivers – the soft focus on the water is characteristic. This is her photograph of the confluence of the Waipā and Waikato rivers at Ngāruawāhia.
