Coal miners photographed by John Pascoe, 1945

Coal miners photographed by John Pascoe, 1945

John Pascoe was an official war photographer on the home front during the Second World War and his commitment to social realism produced a series of sombre and gritty images mixed with more celebratory moments. Pascoe took a series of photographs at the coal mining settlement of Denniston on the West Coast, which have become a valuable record of life in that community at the time.
