The Bedplate Press, based at Silverstream, near Wellington, is a working museum of printing equipment and crafts. Here, in 1997, members Garry Moller (left), Bill Nairn and Royce Jacobson celebrate reprinting the first issue of Wellington newspaper the Evening Post. They used the same 1852 Albion hand-operated printing press that produced the original edition in 1865. Its technology was little changed since the invention of moveable-type printing in the 15th century. This press is typical of those used to produce colonial newspapers up to around 1880.
