Pat Rowling draws water from a memorial fountain that marks the place where his ancestor Thomas Rowling had landed from Arthur Wakefield's ship and drew water on 9 October 1841. The memorial was erected exactly a hundred years later, on 9 October 1941, as part of Nelson's provincial centennial celebrations. The re-enactment, in November 1962, was part of a Rowling family reunion, which included future prime minister Bill Rowling.
