Ash Bell, studio manager, and Shirley Comeskey, senior operator, at work at Print Disabled Radio, Levin, 1990. Still operating in 2014 – as the Radio Reading Service – it was established as a private short-wave station run by volunteers. Broadcasting to New Zealand and the Pacific, it provided a reading service for people who, for whatever reason, were unable to read themselves. Note the innovative use of cardboard egg trays for acoustic dampening.
