Writer-director Geoff Steven is behind the camera in this photo of the making of his first feature film, Test pictures: eleven vignettes from a relationship. At left is Lee Feltham, one of the film's central characters. Philip Chapman (with back to camera) was the cinematographer together with Steven. The film was made for $14,000, a minute budget even for that period. After the premiere the prime minister, Robert Muldoon, clearly unimpressed, demanded to know from Steven, 'Who paid for it?' Steven was able to reply that no state funding had been used.
